Woody......

'Woody' was rescued from a local garden on 17th May after she was seen for several days out during the daytime.  She was riddled with internal parasites and suffering from a suspected UTI.  Was treated for both and made good progress. Loves her biccies this one!

I had a feeling though that she could be carrying babies.  So Woody was released into a safe release garden in Stanah just up the road where there is a plentiful supply of her favourite biscuits left out for her and other visiting hedgehogs every evening.  This will undoubtedly help her and the survival of any babies if she has any, and is the prime reason she is being released there.

Betty......

This is an old girl 'Betty' rescued on 29th May.  So frail and thin she was described as being a baby hedgehog by the finder.  Weighs only 380gms and is severely hypothermic and dehydrated.  Now resting on a hot water bottle, she seems so grateful for a bit of warmth.  Not sure if she will survive but at least now she is warm, safe and comfortable.  Always feel sorry for the oldies when they struggle so hard to stay alive.  It's a tough life out there.

Update:  Sadly lost Betty this morning.  Got up at 3am to give her more fluids but she had passed.  I find sometimes that when you give them some comfort as opposed to the struggle they were having to survive in the wild, they just give up.  Sorry to have lost this one.  I always have a soft spot for oldies.  RIP Betty.
