April 2021

Dot......

Little 'Dot' arrived from Norbreck School after being seen in the school grounds.  She is only a baby at around eight weeks old so how she has survived I don't know, as it makes it that she was born sometime in February?  Found during a prolonged dry spell, she was terribly thirsty and drank non stop for five minutes.  Also very cold so was tucked up safe and warm on a heat mat.

The pupils at the school have taken a great interest in Dot's progress.

Carl......

Carl was found mid April out during the daytime in the Carleton area.  A small male juvenile weighing under 250gms.  Nothing majorly wrong, just a few ticks needed removing and the need to get his weight up before he can be released back into the wild again.

Twinkle......

Twinkle was admitted from a local garden in Thornton after being seen out during the day.  He was found to have several dislocated and infected toes and was struggling to walk.  I know an igloo type hedgehog house was being used in this garden, and I wondered if this could be the cause of the injuries sustained, as they seemed compatible with his toes / claws being trapped in something.  The finder is mortified that this hedgehog house could be the cause of his injuries, and needless to say it has now been binned.

Update:  After daily cleaning and a course of antibiotics, Twinkle eventually lost one toe from his back foot which was expected, but I managed to save the toes on his front leg.  The infection is clearing and his mobility is fine, so once the injuries have completely healed he can be released.
