Harriet......

I received a message from a lady in Carleton who had hedgehogs regularly visit her garden and was concerned about hedgehog poo she was seeing.  I asked if she could send me photos so I could see if there was a problem and having viewed them I could see that all was not well.  I could also detect spots of blood, so it needed investigating quickly.

'Harry' who turned out to be 'Harriet' was brought to the Rescue.  The first night she did not eat, was passing blood and had lost a significant amount of weight by the following day.  Microscopic evidence showed a host of internal parasites, so treatment for that began.  Two days later and 'Harriet' was now eating.  She is quite a large hedgehog weighing over 700gms, so when her treatment is finished and weather permitting she can be returned to her garden in Carleton.

Glade......

'Glade' arrived mid December from a local garden after being seen out during the day with what was thought to be a suspected limp.  He was also underweight for the time of the year.  All four limbs were checked but nothing untoward could be found and his movement appeared to be normal.  It was decided to admit him as he was underweight at only 300gms so would stand little chance of surviving over winter.  Currently doing well, weight now over 500gms.

Talbot......

This little guy arrived just before Xmas, again seen out during the day and finding it a struggle weighing just 300gms.  There have been lots of juveniles coming in at this time of the year.  Litters born late in the year when there isn't the time or supply of food to gain the weight needed to successfully hibernate.  'Talbot' was one of these.

He received treatment for a gut infection and internal parasites and is currently gaining weight and doing well.  He will remain here until Spring and then will be released.
