January 2021

Usually a fairly quiet month for admissions as most wild hedgehogs will now be in hibernation.  All hedgehogs here at the Rescue are still awake except for one.

Burt......

Spotted by an eagle-eyed truck driver running alongside the A6 near Lancaster in freezing temperatures, he very kindly stopped to pick him up before he was run over.  After a frantic phone call, 'Burt' arrived wrapped snug and warm in the driver's fleece jacket.

An initial examination revealed he was quite small and underweight with a touch of ringworm, a fungal infection which would need treatment, but first he needed a few good meals inside him.  He is currently doing well and has started his treatment.  Thank you to Marcus for taking the time to go out of your way (literally) to help him.

Dippy......

Little 'Dippy' was rescued after becoming distressed after her nest had become flooded in a garden in Garstang.  There was nowhere else to re-site her as half the garden was under water, so she was admitted to the Rescue.  Freezing cold and wet she was wrapped in a fleece blanket and put on a heat mat to get warm.  A few days later and she seems non the worse for her ordeal.  She will stay here until Spring and then will be released back into the wild.
