December 2022

Elf......

'Elf' arrived on 4th December after being found curled up and not moving on a concrete doorstep.  The finder thought he was dead as the weather had been cold and icy for days.  He was transferred into a warm incubator and given warmed sub cut fluids.  The following day he was looking much better, had eaten well overnight and had gained weight.  Is currently being over wintered here before his release in Spring.

Bauble......

A young male was rescued on 22nd December from a safe release garden in Cleveleys after he was seen on a night camera looking a bit skinny and underweight for the time of the year.  Suspect poops had also been seen in the garden.

On admission he weighed only 382gms and was hypothermic, clearly not well with diarrhoea.  He was given antibiotics and replacement fluids.  A slide under the microscope revealed he was laden with internal parasites, both larvae and eggs.  Treatment for this was started.

His condition deteriorated over the following two days as he lost a lot of weight.  Christmas Day and at last he was eating.  His weight is now stable. It's early days yet but his prospects are now looking more hopeful as he continues to improve.

Clive......

This is 'Clive' - rescued from a garden in Knott End on Boxing Day after he was seen active during the daytime.  The finder could see he was way too small to survive at this time of the year.  Clive weighed only 250gms.  How he survived the recent freezing cold weather is a miracle at that weight.  Now tucked up safe and warm and receiving meds for a poorly tummy.
