Sybil......
Rescued from a garden in Bilsborrow near Preston is this little cutie - 'Sybil'. From the same garden as 'Billy' who was recently released. She is approximately 4-5 weeks old and has a really bad gut infection probably caused by a worm burden, so has been started on fluids and antibiotics. Was quite cold on admission, so now nice and warm in an incubator. Important to pick youngsters up ASAP, as they soon go downhill with something like this and become severely dehydrated and not surviving. Hopefully Sybil was found in time.
Wilma......
'Wilma' was rescued out of the road at Windy Harbour on July 10th by Janine who bravely stopped all the traffic to pick her up. Wilma was diagnosed with a head injury and has subsequently lost an eye. Over the next 10 days she gradually got more and more agitated to the point where I knew I couldn't keep her caged any more, so she has been transferred into an enclosed garden to see if she copes better there while she recovers. A new nest box has been installed and she has everything there she needs. She tends to be active during the daytime which may mean she is completely blind. She just needs time to get used to her new surroundings and hopefully will settle and recover from her injury.
UPDATE:
Wilma has been in a temporary garden now for the past few days while I assess her. Following her head injury I am not convinced she is completely blind, but seems to have limited vision in her remaining eye. She is however, more often than not, active throughout the daytime and so she cannot be released. She needs somewhere now where she can settle and get used to her surroundings.
I need to find her a permanent home in an appropriate garden. It would need to be medium / large sized, fully secure with concrete base panels all round. It needs to be hedgehog-friendly and have plenty of shrubs, trees, ground cover, lawn etc. Places where she could hide away. No pond.
I am looking for someone who is at home all day, has no dog and no children (or visiting). This person would need to put out food and water every day for Wilma as soon as she is seen to be active. This also needs to be someone who would alert me straightaway if there were any problems with Wilma.
I know it seems like a lot to ask, but there are reasons as to why I must stipulate certain things for her, otherwise she would not survive.
If you think you are the kind of person that could give Wilma a safe new life, please PM me or email me at info.hedgehogcare@gmail.com Thank you.
Tiggy and Winkle......
This is 'Tiggy' and 'Winkle' rescued from the Penwortham area of Preston on 31st July. Their Mum was found dead on the road. Aged around 5 weeks, a little boy and girl. Now safe and warm in an incubator.
Dimples......
'Dimples' was picked up out of the road in the Stanah area He was icy cold, dehydrated and wet from spending the previous night in the rain. Now toasty warm in an incubator. He weighs just 150gms so around 7/8 weeks old. Very poorly this one.
