Squealer......

This is 'Squealer' picked up by a passing motorist from off a road in Singleton.  This was a very distressed baby weighing 125gms so around 6 weeks old.  He was cold and covered in fly eggs.  Having picked off all the eggs he was placed in an incubator following a really good feed which was a positive sign.  Now more settled and has thankfully stopped squealing.

He continues to make good progress and will soon be released back into the wild once he gains more weight.

Wilbur......

'Wilbur' was rescued from a local school playing fields.  He was in exceptionally poor condition, his body literally nothing but skin and bone.  He was icy cold and severely dehydrated.  He weighed only 300gms, less than half what an adult hedgehog should weigh. He was given sub cut drip fluids and placed on a heat mat to get him warm. Here he was a couple of hours later up on his feet and eating.  He was still extremely weak but he was trying bless him.

Wilbur survived the night and now off the drip fluids.  Is eating and has put on a little weight. With his condition being so poor I was sure he would not have  survived the night - but here he is!

UPDATE:  Over the course of a few weeks, Wilbur's condition massively improved, and he went on to be released into a local safe release garden where there are nest boxes and plenty of food left out for visiting hedgehogs every evening.
