October 2022

Wally......

'Wally' hadn't got a right lot going for him.  Rescued out of a local garden after he was seen to be out during the daytime.  Flies were buzzing round him, some had settled on him and had laid their eggs.  He was wheezing, blood coming from his nose and he seemed to have lost an eye.  He was icy cold, dehydrated and severely underweight with a possible head injury.  I love a challenge.

I set to work removing all the fly eggs before they hatched out into maggots.  Once warm in an incubator he was started on replacement drip fluids, then antibiotics, painkiller and treatment for lungworm.  He made it through the night and was a surprise really when I saw him on his feet the next morning making an attempt to eat.

Made excellent progress over the following three weeks and has now been transferred into a large enclosed garden where we can monitor him over the coming months to see if he is fit enough for release.

Robinson......

This is 'Robinson' rescued after being found curled up on a doorstep.  Underweight for the time of the year and a very hungry juvenile.  After squeezing this one in we were now 110% full.

Currently being treated for internal parasites and is making steady progress.  Will likely remain here over the winter months and then will be released in Spring.

Angela......

'Angela' arrived at the end of October from a local garden after being seen active in the daytime.  She weighed just over 200gms and is in quite poor condition.  Her tummy is completely bald and she is losing the fur on her face too.  A skin scrape revealed the cause was mites and she is now receiving treatment for this and suspected ringworm.  Her overall condition has improved since admission.
