Seven of Nine......
This little guy took some catching by all accounts which involved a wall, a hedge and a hole (don't ask, it's a long story). He was spotted out in the daytime in the Pilling area which meant there was something not right so needed catching. When he arrived at the Rescue Centre it was found he had multiple wounds to his head and neck, several which looked like bite marks, so maybe he had had a run in with a rat. All were infected, he also had a badly infected wound to his ear. His wounds were cleaned up he was then put on antibiotics.
Update: is still receiving treatment but continuing to do well.
Update:
Was released into a safe release garden in Preesall on 2nd June.
Wheezy......
This little female was admitted from the Stalmine area on 19th May struggling to breathe. She tested positive for lungworm so was given appropriate fluids, medications, wormers and oxygen therapy. Currently still receiving treatment, her condition has much improved but has some way to go yet.
Update: 5th June. Still continuing to improve.
Cobweb......
This little lady arrived from Thornton after having found herself locked in a shed for several days. She was quite a big girl weighing over a kilo suggesting she was about to have babies. She was kept for a couple of days just to monitor her, after which she was released into a safe release garden, where hopefully she will have a better chance to have her babies somewhere safe.
Rambo......
This hedgehog was seen with some of his spines missing from his neck area and came in for a check up. It was nothing more than him wearing them away whilst going underneath something like a shed or a fence, so was kept overnight and then released the following evening. This was one bad tempered hedgehog! The females better watch out for this one......
Update 11th June: As I thought, 'Rambo' is terrorising the neighbourhood. He is throwing his weight around with the other hedgehogs in the area including the youngsters, who he thinks nothing of head butting them out of the way sending them flying. This is somewhat 'normal behaviour' but am monitoring the situation. If he causes any injuries then he will need 'transplanting' somewhere else - either that or I will stick an asbo on him. I knew this one would be trouble!
Scrappy......
This little hedgehog arrived on 29th May from the Poulton area looking a bit worse for wear as he had several wounds on his legs and one large infected wound around his ear and into his neck. He was also very dirty, so bad he needed two baths! His wounds were cleaned and he was given antibiotics. His overall condition is not too good but has eaten well overnight.
Update 8th June: Poor 'Scrappy' didn't make it. The infection in his system was too much for him as his general condition wasn't good so couldn't fight it. This was a possible dog attack, something I see on a regular basis unfortunately.
