Barry......

Baby 'Barry' was admitted after being found in the gutter trying to get a drink from the side of a road in Carleton.  He weighs just 128gms so will be here for the foreseeable future as there isn't the time left for him to put the weight on to be released before the cold weather kicks in.  He is loaded with internal parasites, so is receiving the necessary treatment.

DPD......

A knock on the door revealed a DPD delivery driver - but strangely not carrying a parcel.  "I've just seen a hedgehog on Hastings Road and it's going to get run over" he said.  As he had nothing in his van to pick it up with, I ended up climbing into his delivery van (not an easy feat at my age!) and we set off to find said hedgehog before it got squished.  I was surprised to find it was still there to be honest as usually it would have disappeared by now.  I climbed back into the delivery van and headed back home.  She is not a very well hedgehog, but is now tucked up safe and warm.  Will see later what her underlying reason is for being out during the day.  "How did you know where to find me?" I asked the driver.  "I have delivered parcels to you in the past and saw they were addressed to Lancashire Hedgehog Care" he said.  I bet that's the first time a hedgehog has been delivered by DPD!

Buster......

This baby hedgehog was found trapped in water in a household drain after the cover had blown away in the wind.  It's not known how long he has been trapped in there.   With all the recent very heavy and persistent rain falling in on him from the drainpipe, water could be in his lungs if he had been submerged.  The finders managed to get him out of the drain but he was severely hypothermic and in a bad way when he arrived.  'Buster' was placed in an incubator and on a heat mat to get him warm.  Despite being given emergency care, little 'Buster' did not survive.
