Nick......

This little fella arrived after being found wandering around during the daytime in the grounds of Lancaster Prison.  Nick was a juvenile weighing only 300gms and quite a poorly hog, testing positive for lungworm and roundworm.  Following necessary treatment he made an excellent recovery, and went on to be released into a safe area weighing 600gms at the end of September.

Roadrunner......

This little one was spotted in a garden in Larkholme during the afternoon, but before he could be picked up he was seen legging it at some speed down the road.  Roadrunner weighs just 90gms, a product of a second litter of the year.  When he arrived he was cold and wobbling so was tucked up warm in an incubator.  Over the next twenty four hours his condition deteriorated despite being hand fed, so was given drip replacement fluids and antibiotics.  The following day he was up on his feet and eating for himself.  He is making good progress but still remains at the hospital while he gains more weight.  He will most likely stay here over the winter months.

Knotty Nora......

I wasn't sure whether or not this was a deliberate act of cruelty as the nylon rope was securely knotted around her body, or was yet another casualty of carelessly discarded litter.  She was monitored for constriction injuries over the following week and seemed non the worse for her ordeal.  Nora doubled her weight from 250gms in two weeks and has now been released back into the wild.

Flint......

A little female weighing just over 200gms rescued after being seen during the daytime at a caravan park in Stanah.  Flint had almost collapsed by the time she was admitted.  I didn't think she would survive the night.  She was given subcutaneous fluids and kept in an incubator for two days, an overload of worms her underlying problem.  Is now receiving appropriate treatment and currently out of the incubator and in a recovery unit.  She is eating well now and gaining weight so her prognosis is good.
